John - Re: "Is this a big deal? Intel Introduces Integrated Chipset for Mobile PCs
Intel 815EM Chipset Delivers Integrated Graphics Capabilities and Incorporates Intel Hub Architecture"

Yes - on at least two counts.

First, the i815EM has integrated graphics on board - so use of this chip set will lower the component cost - and assembly/inventory cost - for low end notebooks.

Second - for higher end notebooks - it provides for faster memory - PC133 SDRAM and AGP4X graphics (if an external graphics chip is used). The EIDE drive interface should also handle ATA100 drives if available for notebooks.

The older 440BX/MX was a PC100 and AGP 2X solution.

Thus, Intel re-ups the performance bar - for any competitor trying to squeeze into this business - AMD, VIA, TransMeta, etc.
