Reagan Respond to of 197016 More on WCDMA parts & pieces: RF Micro Devices Announces New Receiver Front End for W-CDMA and PCS Applications CCN Disclosure - October 23, 2000 11:22 LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM-- New GaAs HBT Device Features Stepped Gain Control and Adjustable Bias Current RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, announced today, at Mobile Silicon 2000, the development of a new complete receiver front endfor the receive section of W-CDMA and PCS applications. RF Micro Devices' newest GaAs HBT device, the RF2469, contains a W-CDMA/PCS low noise amplifier/mixer down-converter. Typical applications include W-CDMA handsets, PCS handsets and general-purpose downconversion - up to 2.5GHz. The RF2469 amplifies and down-converts RF signals while providing 23dB of stepped gain control range. Device features include digital control of the LNA gain and power-down mode, plus adjustable IIP3 of the LNA and mixer using an off-chip current setting resistor. The RF2469 offers a 24.5dB maximum cascade gain, with a corresponding noise figure of only 2.5dB and a -9.5dBm IIP3(assuming a 2.5dB I.L. RF saw filter). The RF2469 is part of a complete single-mode W-CDMA RF chipset solution. Announced in June 2000, the chipset was developed by using RF Micro Devices' extensive experience in CDMA RFICs and by incorporating specific feedback from many customers - particularlyin Japan and Europe. This chipset offers a complete RF-to-IF solution for W-CDMA using GaAs HBT, SiGe as well as BiCMOS processtechnologies. The first W-CDMA-capable phones are expected to launch commercially in 2001, with prototype units already available. Manufactured using an advanced GaAs HBT technology, the RF2469 is offered in an MLF-20 package with an exposed die flag. Priced at $2.62, in quantities of 10,000 units, components and fully assembled evaluation boards are ready for immediate shipment from RFMD.
