"hand our country over to the oil companies"

Then check the Clinton/Gore record:

Sold the Elk Hills Naval Oil Reserves to Occidental.* - The largest privatization in the history of the US.

Supports drilling for oil in Columbia by Occidental.* - A environmental and humanitarian disaster.

Urged release of oil from the strategic oil reserves for political reasons

(Gore has about $500,000 worth of Occidental stock)

I hate to say this, but in the vernacular of the times, as so familiar with the members of the military then, Gore was just "punching his ticket". For all intent, he might just as well been a tourist. His handler was given instructions to keep him out of harms way. Hardly impressive service by any standard. Just long enough to say "Ah was there". How else could one describe his 141 day sacrifice in Nam. He was at more risk of being bite in the butt by a shark in his living room. Sure he was there, but for what motive?
