For those reaching fast conclusions for narrow assumptions, such as:

"When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" and
"If we do away with the Ten Commandments, we will only have suggestions."

The "Bath" analogy is a very strong argument against broad conclusions reached from a narrow base of assumptions:

On a hot day, sitting in a cool pool of water with the level up to your chin, is pleasant.
On the hottest day of the year, sitting in a cool pool of water with the level above your nose, is called "drowning".

Too many people stress how "hot" the day is and how cool the water is, and ignore the incremental effects and how significant they are to a situation.
