Steve 667, I kept a copy of \WINDOWS on D: in case a file was corrupted on C:\WINDOWS. If you have enough disk space, doing a COPY from C: and a PASTE to D: makes it possible to recover when all else fails. I recommend this heartily to all readers on this thread.

ALL ... simple tasks such as installing Quake III Arena can sometimes kill your "Windows registry". If you haven't got a FULL backup of your hard drive, a dead registry with a dead registry backup means that you will be DEAD.

When this happens (and it happens often) no amount of help from MSFT will recover 2X dead registry files! You will have to locate EVERY original CD and diskette, reinstall every program, dig around to locate your Favorites, etc., and HOPE that you have a running system when you are done.

Thank God for CD-Rs. I keep all the "really important stuff" on CR-Rs. The latest Plextor 32/12/10 CD-RW drive is really fast. But the company sucks. If you hold long enough to get to a human, he will say "Hello" and then immediately put you on hold "forever". I have been trying to order Plextor's RES-Q software for two weeks and I am still SOOL.

If anyone out there would PLEASE send me an illegal copy of RES-Q, I PROMISE to send a check to Plextor the next day.

PROMISE!!!

Craig
