Kash, re: SSE2 optimization.

If Intel is smart, they're working with lots of software firms to get SSE2 patches into those products (at least in demo form) for the launch.

Otherwise, regardless of what 'new' benchmarks Intel produces, there'll be a lot of comparisons on quake-style games, and existing software in general.

Kash,

First i have to believe that sse2 optimization will help PIV blow some benchmarks wide open.

And then it becomes a my benchmark vs your benchmark game.

Agreed here. This is what I am worried about - an ambiguous performance claims, leaving the field to non-existent AMD PR vs. seasoned Intel PR department. Intel PR wins hands down.

I think folks here underestimate Intels market power, the power of MHZ sells and the fickleness of consumer market.

Marketing can make a huge long-term difference between comparable products. It can also generate short-term surges.

What it cannot do is stem a flood. Look at the Celeron fiasco. Lucky for Intel they had an easy solution to that one. Consumers are not stupid, they are just slow to catch on sometimes.

If the P4 turns out to be a dog Intel's marketing department will not be able to save it.
