You're right about Kryotech: a neat trick but not very practical. here's even a few more disadvantage you didn't mention:

1 it weighs a ton, makes for huge shipping costs and about as easy to move around the office as say... a fridge
2 it takes 10 or 15 minutes to boot, because the processor has to cool first
3 very noisy, of course that's part of the course with overclocking rigs

The upgradability issue is getting better (now you can do it yourself!) but these days AMD seems to release new speed grades faster than Kryotech can validate and ship the last one ;(

Dear Doug:

Kyrotech does allow the motherboard and CPU to be changed. They allowed the motherboard to be up to you and they supplied the chamber(s) for the CPU(s) you wanted to use. Systech, used them to make workstations that were well received. The last price I saw was $495 for the case, PS, and cooling system. Volume would probably drop that price down over time. Another version is being planned for dual CPU systems. Intel has refused in the past to do the same for Intel CPUs cooled this way. Given Intel's past paper launches (6K in the first three months of 1G P3), it is possible for Kyrotech to supply those amounts that the ultimate performance users would want.

Although with the speed of the current speed ramps, 33% more MHz will get overtaken in less than 4 or 5 months.
