Datum Reports Record Third Quarter Results

IRVINE, Calif., Oct 23, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Datum Inc. (Nasdaq:DATM), the leading designer and global supplier of synchronization, timing and frequency solutions, today announced record results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2000.

Net revenue for the third quarter increased 45% to $36.2 million from $25.0 million in the third quarter of 1999. Net income was $2.0 million or $0.32 per diluted share, compared to a loss of $0.6 million, or $0.11 per diluted share, in the prior-year period.

Net income for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2000 includes previously announced charges of $500,000 before taxes, or $0.05 per diluted share, related to the establishment of Datum's Test and Measurement Division.

"Datum generated strong performance across all of its core businesses while strengthening its operating structure and financial condition," commented Erik van der Kaay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Building on our momentum from the second quarter of 2000, revenues increased 8% sequentially in the third quarter. Our wireless business again turned in a strong performance, benefiting from a favorable product mix, a more diversified customer base and improved operating efficiencies.
