Glenn didn't circuit city warn recently re earnings and revenues slowing? If that's not bearish for electronics I don't know what is.

There's the evidence -- brick and mortar electronics sales are plummeting while the online sales thrive. <g> Maybe some truth in those words.

Victor,

I meant to say margins not revenues but you are correct about revenues being slow for Circuit City which is a good indicator here. Amazon only mentions their electronics growth so to place a spin on some kind of growth. Amazon has very little revenue in the electronics area. In fact, Amazon does not let us know the amount of revenue. They are showing revenue increase off a small base which is easy for anyone so they tout growth as being fast.

Electronics has never shown to be a decent profit center for any retailer. Many products become obsolete in short order and the manufacturer will not take them back. Inventory mark downs are necessary. Amazon is not grow its core book, music and video business domestically. I believe but cannot prove it is slowing.

This story has been in my opinion all about spin and the spin continues. They will continue the spin tonight.

Look for no break out of revenue by category and growth by domestic compared to European markets. This really would not give a secret to competitors but Amazon would prefer to keep that not available to their investors. Look for almost all the focus being on European growth. In fact, Amazon will sate growth there was faster than in the US. The real reason for this is the name was know when they began in Europe and on-line sales were larger to start with. That will not be mentioned. We will hear almost nothing about tools, kitchenware, etc. We will hear a lot about the upcoming Q4 since there is going to be very little positive in the prior quarter. The problem with speculating on Q4 is no one knows what it will be and so almost any numbers may be thrown around.

Simply the focus is what the future will bring and not what has been done in the past.

I also suspect Bezos will field the majority of the questions today. He is excellent at spin and he is aware of that. He knows the spin today will affect near term stock price and I believe Amazon will be trying to raise cash in January prior to Q4 numbers being released.
