Hi Cos
I'm not sure what it is that I misunderstand. First, I think we are confusing two different kinds of evolution, micro(variation within the species) vs macro-evolution(the vaguely described mechanism that creates new species). Of course it's easy to vary finch beaks if you already have a finch. Your example of a bacteria that eats dioxins is a good example of that. Usually it is said that macro is just micro extended over a long period of time, but that seems circular to me.

That brings me to the rocks. I love rocks, I still have my rock collection from when I was a kid. It's just an interest of mine, I'm not an expert, but why is it that the Cambrian explosion is not an embarrassment to evolutionists.
T.P talks about how long it took, but all those different fossils, all at the same time, seems to mitigate against any kind of gradualism. Where are all the transitional fossils that Darwin promised us? Besides that, if life began in the sea, where fossils are most likely to form, then where are all the pre-Cambrian fossils? To just say well, there are some holes in the theory is frankly a monumental understatement. Hey maybe Santa brought them? I think Behe's argument about, irreducibly complex biologic systems arn.org is strong evidence of intelligent creation all by itself, but when you add to that, the apparent anthropic nature of the universe, arn.org
then the answer seems to be compellingly obvious. Some sort of intelligence has designed things to be the way they are. Intelligence and design clearly imply personality. This intelligent, personal designer also had to be powerful enough to implement his design. Now, if you grant that you are at least halfway home to God. The obvious question is which God. Will the real God please stand up! That will have to wait till later.
Good night all.
Greg
