Sorry Knight--you can't take a trillion dollars out of the budget for Dubya's partial privatization scheme and do his $1.3 trillion tax cut ($1.6 trillion if you count the interest payments on the national debt that we won't be able to make). You can do one, not both.

But don't worry. If Dubya wins, there's no chance that he'll even try to do this. This is all election rhetoric--he was forced (or felt he was, anyway) to take this radical position in the primaries when he was worried about the threat from Steve Forbes. This "plan" of his will be jettisoned in no time as soon as he's sworn in, if he wins. You heard it here first...

Btw, i don't disagree with your criticism of the "lock-box." You might remember, though, that the lock-box scheme originated with the Republicans in Congress, not Gore, and the truth is there is no "lock" on the box. why Gore picked this scheme up from the Repubs is a mystery to me, but it's a bipartisan mystery, not a Dem one alone....
