My two cents re OT postings.

In moderation, especially when a thread is otherwise lifeless, they don't bother me. In excess, or when there are pressing matters to discuss, they can get in the way. I'm with Tony on the "heavy" subjects -- as filler, they should probably stick to more light hearted topics. They should never totally dominate a thread.
