Responding to my own post, reread the Register article, which, BTW, sounds right on, without slips of course. One thing about this comment:

Four way servers based on the ServerWorks chipset will jump from 700MHz PIII Xeon with 2Mb cache to 900MHz at the end of this year, while lowlier dual CPU servers move from 933MHz to 1GHz at the same time. Foster debuts at the end of Q1 at 2GHz and 256 on-die L2 cache, again using ServerWorks.

Dell and maybe others are already selling 1 GHz PIII servers. Maybe the author meant PIII Xeon/256 KB cache based servers will start coming out EOY. Also, they aren't lowly. The big OEMs are selling the bejeezus out of those 2-way servers.

Tony: I guess the market and analysts haven't seen this article or don't believe INTC will execute. JFD
