OK, in that sense you have a point. But AMAT does not own 70% of the semicap market and there are plenty of giant companies in this field to keep AMAT on its toes.

That said, I still live in this society and the decision for whom to vote will have to be balanced on more than what it does to the stocks I hold. I may hold some defence stocks (I never do) but that does not mean I will vote for the one in favor of huge defence spending.

Any company that owns 70% of the market might try to stifle innovation. I see nothing wrong with keeping the company in check. Intel is a case in point. For years it has owned 80+% of the market. And it has faced many enquiries. And those inquiries have not destroyed the company and have ensured the continuous fall in PC prices.
