>Bentonville, Arkansas, Oct. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s annual sales are on track this year to pass those of General Motors Corp., the largest U.S. company by revenue for much of the past half-century, the New York Times reported.

Wal-Mart had U.S. sales of $142 billion in the fiscal year ended in January, or 6.2 percent of the country's total retail spending excluding vehicles and boats, the paper said. Its total sales were $165 billion. GM, the world's biggest automaker, had sales of $167 billion last year.
