I don't think he is referring to using patents per se.

It appears what he is referring to is the very high prices that patent holders like RMBS are asking. RMBS is trying to extract 3 - 6% from INTC of the price of the entire microprocessor when their technology only covers the controller part of the mp which is worth about $20.

This is business as usual with QCOM's customers but this is new to the way INTC and the DRAM producers have done business in the past.

Heck if RMBS gets away with this they will soon be bigger than INTC.

I found it rather interesting that having expressed a distaste for this mode of business, the 2 companies named (in the original post), wouldn't be compelling if it werent for their patents...
