DJ CLARIFICATION:McD's Deciding If EarthShell Box Meets Needs

24 Oct 15:04

EarthShell Senior Vice President Vincent J. Truant said McDonald's is still
deciding what characteristics of the box meets its requirements.

Any McDonald's agreement also would not prevent EarthShell from pursuing
other business opportunities.

(A story that ran at 2:38 p.m. EDT on Oct. 23 misrepresented some of the
executive's comments.)

DJ EarthShell -2: Could Lead To Agreement With McDonald's

23 Oct 14:38

By Laura Elizabeth Pohl
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Eco-friendly packaging for Big Macs may soon be found
at the neighborhood McDonald's Corp. (MCD), courtesy of EarthShell Container
Corp. (ERTH).

The Annapolis Junction, Md., company said Monday its EarthShell Big Mac
sandwich containers, which are made from recycled milk and juice boxes,
limestone and starch, have been shipped to Chicago for what the company
believes will be the final validation testing for the products.

EarthShell Senior Vice President Vincent J. Truant said McDonald's is still
deciding what characteristics of the box it does and doesn't want to keep.

Truant sees the validation, once it happens, "leading up to an agreement of
some sort," he said. "If we are successful, then our companies would sit down
and develop a logical ramp-up" into McDonald's' U.S. restaurants.

McDonald's officials were not immediately available for comment.

Truant could not offer a revenue estimate from any agreement and emphasized
that neither company has ever said EarthShell would supply Big Mac boxes for
all McDonald's restaurants in the United States.

Any McDonald's agreement also would not prevent EarthShell from pursuing
business at other restaurant chains. For the time being, however, EarthShell is
more interested in business from airlines, convention centers, stadiums and
other non-chain entities, Truant said.

EarthShell shares recently shot up 76.7% on the news to $1.56. Volume was
heavy at 1.5 million compared with average daily volume of 293,000.

Analysts covering EarthShell were not immediately available for comment.
