Yes, of course they knew. The market was ripe for a bounce and AJC was the catalyst. GS made their few quick bucks. There comes a point though were the analyst's words have no meaning and the trading desks suffer some huge losses when their market calls don't pan out (see Ralph Acampora for evidence). Also, in the old days, the rally might have been pronounced than the indices made it out to be. I can tell you this, however. A lot of longs are going to get creamed as the optical stocks induce some margin calls for "on the fringe" momo managers.
