Infiniband technology

Here is a new SI thread on this technology:

Subject 37223

I haven't had time to plow through this new thread to see what value there may be.

Here is an article that explains Infiniband in pretty lay terms:

computerworld.com

As I posted last Tuesday, I think this may have implications for the following

(1) Data Storage (EMC, NTAP, etc.)

(2) Datacenters (EXDS, Global Center, etc.)

By eliminating the need for an internal I/O bus system, architects will be rethinking how to package servers. Analysts at Illuminata Inc. in Nashua, N.H., say they think a server's footprint could be cut by as much as 60%, immediately benefiting crowded data centers by replacing hulking servers with more streamlined machines.

(3) WIND and of course

(4) Intel and anything else that comes to mind.
