Any hint of slowing growth will send investors running. I for one will be avoiding NT short term, and will remain with a large % of my portfolio invested in CSCO.

Some interesting NT posts:
Note: CC notes 'stolen' from the NT board were LAST quarters earnings. Gal had listened to wrong cc. (see what happens when we are all in a rush!).

What NT guided:
Message 14651328

Here is the problem:
"Nortel's optical network system sales grew 90 percent in the quarter, versus several analysts' expectations of about 120-125 percent."

Best synopsis of the issues at play:
Message 14652306

My two cents worth. Roth bumped up the estimates from 10 to 12 billion (a couple of weeks ago) and then decided it was best to stick with a very conservative estimate going forward. This cost them. The rest is 'mis-information' (e.g. NT losing money). I have not had time to REALLY digest everyone's posts on the NT threads to see what exactly happened.

What I do know:
NT is a excellent long term buy here. JDSU/SDLI and NT are the best fiber optic plays. Only scary part is

a) The market, THE MARKET!

b) Telco's going through consolidation right now.

c) Tornado affects are making it hard for companies to keep up with demand and installations (not too mention forcasting).

Mtnlady--

This market is going from the absurd to the ridiculous.

On Nightly Business Report Paul Kangas reported that the precipitous fall in SDLI was not in sympathy with NT's "disappointing earnings"--which could be understandable, if ill-informed--but due to a warning letter from the FDA.

Huh?

It turns out that an SDLI unit makes lasers for the medical world. Said lasers were missing a label that must be mounted on the machine in a particular way and had an off/on switch that could be removed while the machine was in operation.

Now this is a big deal? The machines have been fixed, warning letters are dear to the FDA's heart, and as a proportion of SDLI's revenues the whole thing doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

Crazy times.

You mean after all this time I should have been in Amazon.com instead of Nortel. It looks that way tonight, I guess I'll have to look into dumping Nortel and buying Amazon.com. <gg>

Mtnlady I own a small position in Nortel---Though I might consider trading my shares tonight to Uncle Frank for his CSCO.<gg> The way this market is, it doesn't take much to cause a problem. We should be able to look back and say this was a good buying opportunity.
