I feel the deep pain and horror of the writers of this document. I believe it. It is almost an apology for

the
sinfulness of her children [which the Church should become more fully
conscious of] , recalling all those times in history when they
departed from the
spirit of Christ and his Gospel and, instead of offering to the world the
witness of a life
inspired by the values of faith, indulged in ways of thinking and acting which
were truly
forms of counterwitness and scandal."

It didn't exactly admit that "the children" that the Church should be more conscious of the "sinfulness" of include notably the church hierarchy, the Pope not excepted.

I assume the "sinfulness" is the collusion and silence.

It's emotional, and sincere, I think. But I am not satisfied. I am a bad sport. And I'm not even Jewish. I'm merely a Godless person who resents taking the rap and would like to see an admission that genuinely accepted responsibility for what was done, and not done.

Godless ideology indeed.
