Bombardier Receives Orders for Two Additional CRJ200 Aircraft From JAL TORONTO, ONTARIO--OCTOBER 31, 2000 - 14:48 EST Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Japan Airlines (JAL) has placed a firm order for two more 50-seat CRJ200* Series regional jets on behalf of its wholly-owned subsidiary J-Air. The order is valued at U.S.$44 million (Cdn.$61.6 million). The transaction announced today represents the conversion of two of three options taken by JAL when it ordered two CRJ200 aircraft in January 2000. Under today's agreement, JAL will take options on an additional two CRJ200 aircraft. Deliveries of the firm-ordered aircraft are scheduled to take place between the fourth quarter of 2000 and the second quarter of 2002. J-Air, one of Japan Airlines' domestic route carriers, is based in Hiroshima and provides services mainly in southwest Japan. The airline currently operates 19-seat turboprops on short, thin routes. The CRJ will give J-Air more efficient, high-speed aircraft to provide new route services as well as serve routes where passenger load factors do not meet the capacity of Japan Airlines' larger jets. "This follow-on order before J-Air takes delivery of its first CRJ is very much appreciated," said Steven A. Ridolfi, president of Bombardier Aerospace, Regional Aircraft. "The Asia/Pacific region is becoming an increasingly important market for us and we welcome the continuing strong interest from that area in our products." Bombardier's regional aircraft, both Q* Series turboprops and CRJ Series jets, are on order or in service with six operators in Japan. Those six airlines have ordered and optioned a total of 25 aircraft composed of 12 Q Series turboprops and 13 CRJ jets. Bombardier, Nagasaki Airways Sign Follow-on Contract for Q200 TORONTO, ONTARIO--OCTOBER 31, 2000 - 15:01 EST Bombardier Aerospace has sold a second 39-seat Q200* turboprop airliner to Nagasaki Airways of Japan before the airline has taken delivery of the Q200 it ordered in November 1999. Delivery of the first aircraft is scheduled for the first quarter of 2001; delivery of the aircraft covered in the transaction announced today is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2001. "Bombardier Q Series aircraft have built an impressive reputation for performance, low operating costs and reliability, and so we have no hesitation in committing to a second Q200 before receiving our first," said Kazutaka Muraoka, president of Nagasaki Airways. The airline, which was established in 1961, is based in the Nagasaki Prefecture on Kyushu, Japan's westernmost province. The first Q200 aircraft will be flown on the Iki-Fukuoka and Iki-Nagasaki routes. In addition, Nagasaki Airways is currently planning to fly a Fukuoka-Nagasaki route once the second Q200 aircraft is introduced. The Nagasaki Airways order adds to Bombardier Aerospace's already strong presence in the Japanese market for efficient and economic regional turboprop aircraft. Air Nippon Co. Ltd. of Tokyo ordered three 56-seat Q300* airliners in 1999. Other Dash 8(R) aircraft are operated in Japan by Amakusa Airlines and Ryukyu Air Commuter.
