Amy, Thanks. I agree that quarter to quarter results should be viewed just as carefully as YOY.

FWIW: Sun Quarterly Earnings per share

1998: June=0.17 September=0.07 drop > 58%
1999: June=0.24 September=0.16 drop > 33%
2000: June=0.42 October= 0.30 drop > 28%

Taken in context, is the Quarter to Quarter drop in 2000 a negative trend? I appreciate seeing the figures from the perspective of others on the thread. It is all too easy to see what we want to see and miss important data and trends.

I'm concerned about competition but Sun is in a good position and seems to be leading here. Intel is introducing 64 bit and suddenly using catch phrases that Sun was using years ago. I don't think Sun will go away. I don't think Intel will let Sun dominate the high end servers. So I'm glad to be invested in both.

Intel was the first stock I purchased (venturing out from mutual funds). I believed Intel had the ability to see the future and make it happen. I still do. One reason Sun is being rewarded is that the Sun vision was right on. Everyone wants their share of Sun's markets. I believe there is enough growth in servers that both Intel and Sun (and others) will prosper. I've been warned about the threats to Sun since 1995 but am thankful I held on, taking profits and still building my position. I haven't sold much INTC, either. But the first sale helped finance my CSCO and I can't complain. It's tempting to buy more INTC at these levels but already have more than I should.

Sentiment is important. I take your concerns, and others, about Sun's valuation seriously. Your concern about how I'm doing in this market is appreciated. CSCO and INTC have me hurting but they literally changed my life. I can't complain. I believe Intel and Cisco will do whatever is necessary to continue their positions of leadership. I am pleased to be invested for the long haul. My EMC and SUNW have held up.

Too many words. Forgive me. Looking at the Quarter to Quarter results over the last three years, do you think the trend is negative?

TIA, dmf
