This may seem pat, but maybe it gets to the entire point of the thread. If you are a Christian, or a Buddhist, or a member of a few other churches less well known (Sufi, for one) or a subscriber to certain beliefs like Stoicism, you don't believe that God wants you to slaughter man, woman and child. If anyone tells you otherwise, they are mistaken. I recognize that throughout history people have used God as a justification for murder and genocide. They were mistaken, if not outright liars.
