Paramedics in a Palestinian ambulance were the first on the scene and helped treat the injured and called for Magen David Adom ambulances. The dead soldier's family was notified, but his name was not released for publication. The bus slid off the road, hit a Palestinian taxi, and flipped over, the IDF said. Two Palestinians in the taxi were lightly injured. The IDF flatly ruled out foul play or the possibility that it was caused by a hostile act by Palestinians. "It was a simple but tragic traffic accident, apparently caused by the slippery road," said one Central Command source. Shortly after the accident, a Palestinian Red Crescent Society ambulance appeared by chance. Its medics, who have been extremely busy treating the hundreds of Palestinians wounded in clashes with IDF troops, immediately began treating the IDF soldiers. Shortly afterward Magen David Adom ambulances arrived. Some of the injured were brought to Hadassah-University Hospital, Mount Scopus, and others to hospital's Ein Kerem facility. One died upon arrival, one was listed in serious condition, two had moderate injuries, and the rest were said to have only been lightly hurt. "The paramedics worked side by side," said Uriel Masad, spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross. "This is a great example of how ambulance personnel are above the conflict. "We are calling on all sides not to harm ambulances or the medical personnel on both sides. We want people to respect their work and not harm them." Later, one of the Israeli ambulances saw that it had mistakenly taken a stretcher from the Palestinian one and the IRCS helped return it, Masad said ****************** Just amazing how this situation is iexorably moving to the ultimate show-down... I sincerely hope that I'm wrong, but I think we're all experiencing one of those major paradigms in world history where everything we had come to accept is suddenly altered. Btw, I'm not Jewish so I really don't have any special attachment to Israel, except it seems they are doing everything possible to remain civil in most cases while the Palestinians send their CHILDREN, THEIR VERY FUTURE, into the streets to throw rocks and provoke the soldiers. What kind of people permits their innocent children to be put at risk like this? I just don't understand it sometimes...
