On 9/15/00 my new visor suddenly went "screwy" and would not respond to screen taps. I called Handspring Technical support to complain and was promised a replacement which arrived on 9/19/00. On 9/28/00 the replacement Visor went "screwy" and could not be turned off or any programs accessed. Upon reporting the new problem to Technical Support, I was informed that the replacement Visor was not new but was a repaired item. I am completely disgusted with the Handspring company and the Visor, and now wish that I had purchased the Palm V."zdnet.com That is written by an Air Safety Investigator, I think we all can agree these are not the kind of problems we want him to be preoccupied with. Again, quality is an issue, its the difference between a world class company and something which is a "flash in the pan". When "the Palm creator" Hawkins left US Robotics/3COM to this new Venture Capital enabled IPO wunder company---he also left some other things behind. 1. 3COMs experience in understanding consumer demand and setting realistic production schedules. 2. 3COMs teams of dedicated manufacturing experts. Look at the design of the top selling Palm VX, the HAND has nothing that compares, and the springboard eliminates the possiblity of such compactness. 3. And most importantly the super-genius Hawkins left behind "Bob" You never will hear about good old "Bob", he sits at his cube, he has a nice family, he wears a pocket-protector and is unaware of any jokes related to them, But good old "Bob" did something that Hawkins still does not appreciate. He tested the heck out of the Palm device and OS, he took the concept and made it stable, he made it rugged. You see "Bob" runs the testing department at 3COM, nothing leaves 3COM until BOB says its good enough. Besides Bob himself, nobody really knows what Bob does, but Bob does it just the same. Good old "Bob". 4. HAND has no "Bob". HAND is a "Bob"less wonder. Somehow I think the Air Safety Investigator and "Bob" would hang out together, you know? And now you know the rest of the story. Good day. ---Please note the concept of "Bob" is just that a concept, relating to the hierarchy of necessary players required to make a complex manufacturing entity churn out quality high technology components. Bob insisted I make that clear
