8-17-9 will signal about a day ahead of 12-25-9 so yes it is a faster setting. It seems to work more in unison with the slower 15-5-5 for the conservative entry that Im looking for. Just remember that MACD is ONLY used as an entry tool along with stochastic. It is worthless as an exit indicator.

Once entry is made I then change stochastics to 5-3-3 in order to locate an exit as close to the top as is possible. I also watch Williams and Money Flow for a hint that a top is near as they both will bend or reverse shortly prior to the fast stochastic line and serves as kind of a pre warning that a top may be very near.

For intra-day 5 minute and 15 minute settings I like stochastic 15-5-5 and
MACD 12-25-9. MACD is a very good intraday indicator for short term and day trading. Again think of it as a momentum indicator.

These same settings also work well with 1 minute charts.
