I would NEVER put in a sell order at market before the open? !! If I feel it imperative to dump a swing trade position in the morning for fear of losing further, I would make sure that mine is the FIRST to trade in the pre-market. . .before short-sellers have their first cup of coffee. In fact, I've already sold a few and am content with my hand into the bell and it is only 15 minutes into the pre-market.

I don't believe that taking a big loss makes one sleep better. Diversification does. If you have 50 or more issues, taking a big hit in one or two stocks should not affect you that badly. I find that the ones who have trouble sleeping are generally holding too much of any one position. More than 10% of port in a single issue is extremely risky and aggressive. More than 5% of a port is considered risky and vulnerable.

The days of swing trading large [daytrading style] positions overnight may be over. The volatility has made this too risky a venture.

Interestingly, JDSU is getting an EARLY haircut ahead of its earnings. . . .on strong volume of 315k traded in first 15 min. Now THAT is fear.

Best wishes,
