telecomguy,

Let's see CSCO when there are widespread component & engineering resource shortage and see how they perform. Didn't they also report huge
backlog buildup and long delays in shipments recently?

I don't think this is the issue. The issue is that Roth stated that NT would do $12B in optical revenues and now is stating it will be $10B due to the above points you articulated. So, this - to the analysts - means lower revenues.... something Roth should have seen coming is what I suspect the analysts are saying to themselves. I think this is the underlying issue. That said - I agree with you that NT's business is still sound. They seem to be managing the circuit switch transition pretty well... even though they weren't consistent on the numbers.

Oh, I completely agree with you. However, the bottom line is taht NT did not do a good job of guiding the analysts. So the analysts and media are pissing on them now. CSCO always does a good job of guidance. Therefore, CSCO is rewarded with premium valuation. These are the rules Wall Street has laid down and I hope NT can learn to play by them. It makes me sick that the company is doing so well, yet because of a communication issue, they get pummeled. Ah well.

CSCO did report huge backlog buildup, but not delays in shipment. Their backlog buildup is from unanticipated new orders which they expect to work off "soon". This is good news, IMO.
