I wonder why Roosevelt did not condemn the Holocaust during World War II? Why didn't he let Jews come here before the war started and afterwards? Should we condemn the Democratic party because he did not? Should we condemn the American people?
Yes, I think a lot should be chastized for self centered, cowardly, and disgraceful behaviour. I have heard it was only the fact that he was doing two of his secretaries that made him somewhat more susceptible to certain arguments from both jews and Gentiles. Of course, one hears a lot of things, doesn't one?
Examples from the life of Jesus? Well, two come to mind immediately: The cursing of the fig tree was an act of childish temper and pique that is both ridiculous and unworthy. This guilty tree was not even in growing season. He could have done something sensible and kind (such as making it bloom forever for the hungry travellers); Instead He does something which in no way matches up to the examples of Statesmanship that you have been educated in through your profession.
Then there is His meeting with the Gentile woman with the sick child. Before He will deign to help this innocent child (that by sensible standards has no racial or other guilt, but only innocence), he first makes the mother crawl and admit her racial filth. Because the mother is far more classy and loving and witty and intelligent than most biblical characters, she is able to give an answer that is sufficiently degrading to prompt Jesus to make an example to her of the compassion of the ruler. It reminds me of that Nazi thing where the passengers are divided into the left line and the right. You know what I mean, and I'm truly sorry to have to say it, but I'm not in a good mood this morning. For those that rely on the good will of the State or the King, or the Priest, or the judge or simply others...so much is a matter of luck, isn't it?
I guess we can ignore treatment of animals. It is just that I get confused when I see the more humane choices He could have made...
Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.--Luke 8:33
THE FIG TREE:
Mt.21:19-20 "And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!"
OR IT MIGHT HAVE DIED IN THE MORNING, WHO KNOWS? What's a few thousand contradictions for the sake of some good stories...
Mk.11:13-14, 20-21 "And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it. And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away."
Of course, this might mean anything other than what it means, right. I understand that...
THE GENTILE
15:22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. 15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
15:27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour
To Jesus, a Gentile Greek was a DOG. What a lovely way to describe a human being... |
