Master: from what they said the answer is (b). Merrill Lynch is going to have a cc at 3:300. The speculation is that it is going to be bullish commentary on networking and fibre optic stocks. JFD

it's funny how on when it comes to stocks like NT we are told to focus on operating earnings and revenue growth but told to ignore the one time write offs and amortization of goodwill. Then on stocks like IBM we are told to ignore operating earnings and lack of revenue growth and focus on net income growth that comes from gains from investments and stock buy backs. It's a sad game. Most just don't get it. I see Merrill must have go caught with their pants down. Calling a conference call to try to bail out the optics sector.

Sounds like the revenue didn't necessarily fall short -- it was just artificially pumped up (not by NT but by their customers who feared shortages so they double booked for future needs) in the past quarter.

The reality is that if NT had reported 300 million LESS revenue last quarter and came in this qtr with the expected revenue, NT share price would have still been sitting at $60+ !!!

Isn't it strange how sliding of 300 million between different quarters (and remember quarter is an artificial time frame that we humans make up to quantify periodic results of operation) can make such a HUGE valuation difference when October 25 came around! Talk about ridiculousness of short term investment mentality of our markets these days.

Here is an interesting concept.....what if NT had reported quarters ending one month earlier or one month later? I BET that the NT share price may not have had such a roller coaster ride.

Of course if NT reports a less than stellar quarter 3 months from now, that's a different issue but right now I guess the market is looking for any reason to bail out.

Hi Master - I suppose your question is rhetorical, since we know very well NT is still selling the stuff like hotcakes. That is why I ve added positions today. That said, the sell side analysts are making their point. If one is long, one thinks they are non sense; if one is short, or like Mr Sagawa, who has an ax to grind, then it is holy words. I tend to see things somewhere in between. Yes, I am still a bull in NT [why else am I adding position :)?] But one should also have a healthy respect of what one is up against.

best, Bosco
