DJ: Perhaps the sentiment on Nortel is that if Nortel's revenues are declining, the whole sector (JD and others) will suffer both short-term and long-term.

Domino-effect, trickle-down effect, call it what you will. It may spell the popping of the bubble for the dreamers in the optical world.

Semiconductors are taking a beating, too. Things are just plum ugly. In retrospect, MHB is that what we lived through in late 1999 and early 2000 was 80 percent excitement. Now, reality sets in, and we get back to what one might consider realistic earnings expectations for techs.

My analysis is that the institutionals got used to reporting nice profits in their portfolios, which makes them happy, and their clients happy. Right now, institutionals are flying around like leaves in a windstorm, hoping to land in some corner out of the wind. The 52-week highs set for most stocks in the past year are going to be a long time coming (back).
