I think you view religions as way too passive. They, and political beliefs, tend to fuel the fires of oppression with a verve and enthusiasm that logic just can't ever seem to muster.

The question asked by this thread "Should God be replaced?" is an attempt to distinguish between personal belief systems and group belief systems. When people start acting in groups to assail other groups who think differently, then you must see that this is the TRUE root of all evil. Godless heathens may be cruel to each other but frequently it isn't because they are Godless heathens but differently godded heathens.

If religion was expunged from the face of the Earth, I have no doubt that people would find some other excuse to hurt and maim and kill. We as citizens of the world need to address the root cause. It is unquestioned belief, IMO. If I was to find any religion non-offensive in this regard, then I'd have to say some forms of Tibetan or Zen Buddhism would foot the bill. With that said, these are still personal beliefs. I will never force you to hold to them because they are personal voyages.

If people want to believe in Santa or the Tooth Fairy, it is no skin off my nose. If they want to base public policy upon written testimonials, witnesses and prophesy about these myths, then that is a completely different matter.
