CDPD Modem Ships for Visors

visorvillage.com

Novatel wireless whips Minstrel S Wireless Springboard Modem for the Handspring Visor series. The wireless CDPD modem is the first to offer full internet and email access for Visors. The modem announced in June is finally shipping, and it even seems optimized to run on the newly released Visor Prism.

What is it?
The Minstrel S is a secure, 2-way wireless data accessory for the Handspring Visor that transforms the handheld computer into a virtual office. The Minstrel S modem gives users mobile data capabilities, enabling wireless access to email, corporate LANs, and the Internet.
Finally, owners of Handspring Visors will be able to utilize wireless internet service providers such as wireless service providers such as GoAmerica and OmniSky.

The feature that sets the Minstrel S apart from the other wireless modems is the 'Plug and Play' nature of the device. Once the modem is inserted into the springboard slot the Visor will automatically pull up the Minstrel Modem Manager software, seamlessly and automatically connecting the user to the wireless Internet.

The modem which will retail for $369 comes equipped with a li-ion battery. The battery is expected last for up to 8 hours of continuous usage, and approximately 24 hours while in sleep mode. It also has three leds similar to the ones found on external PC modems, and it even includes 2 mb of flash memory to store applications. All of that power, and it only weighs 4 oz!
