760 is synchronous. And yes, this is better, especially with DDR.

Doug,

Another advantage of 133 / 266 MHz FSB is granularity. To explain it, suppose you want to go someplace by a bus, you arrive at the bus station at a random time, and the bus goes every 30 minutes. On average, you will wait 15 minutes.

Now suppose the bus company increases frequency and the bus goes every 20 minutes. Your average wait time will be 10 minutes, and your trip will be 5 minutes shorter. (= lower latency)

Also, with increased frequency, the bus company can service more passengers (= increased bandwidth).

Now suppose your trip is a round trip, and you need to possibly need to transfer each way. The benefits from increased frequency start to add up.

Re: synchronous vs. asynchronous

Suppose the frequency of the buses is the same on all of the legs of your trip, and they are timed perfectly so that when you get off one bus, another bus is waiting there. That's synchronous.

Asynchronous means the frequency of buses on each leg of your trip is different.
