Except IBm didn't hand anything to anybody.

Intel earned it.

Go check out the original IBM BIOS code - it was all generated on Intel Development platforms circa 1979/1980/1981.

All the supporting chips on the MB were Intel-designed controller chips - except the floppy disk controllers.

AMD was just a chip cloner back then - dependent upon Intel to define and create a market so that AMD could then saunter on in with cheaper versions of cloned parts and steal business.

AMD was of no use to IBM back then - in fact, as I recollect, AMD was at that time a second source to a Mostek 16-bit CPU - NOT the Intel 8086.
