Jim, long term I'm more concerned about Via than AMD. Just give Via a good processor core design, perhaps their upcoming C5X at 1.2 GHz in Q3 (Q4?) 2001, and they can push their high volumes and low cost into the mainstream. That will put a lot of pressure on Intel and AMD.

Yeah, I know, 1.2 GHz won't amount to a hill of beans in Q3 2001, but then again, "GHz sells" could become a distant memory by that time.

Jimbo - Re: "If anything it's Intel that's hurting VIA with it's low numerated, non-Rambus chipsets aka i815 and i815e"

I know !

By the way, Acer - maker of those great DDR chips sets - has also chosen the Intel i815E for its own line of new PCs !!

"The Veriton FP2, utilizes Intel's newest 815E chipset with embedded audio, 10/100 ethernet, graphics and supports the latest Intel® Pentium® III processors. "

Some endorsement of their own chip sets !
