OK, I see you've abandoned your argument that atheists are as ethical as believers. Now your argument is that atheism has nothing to do with ethics or morality. I agree.

I would further argue that being a member of an organized religion doesn't necessarily have anything to do with ethics and morality, and I think you would agree with me. My impression is that the thread regulars have reached a consensus that one of the problems with organized religion is the tendency of people to adhere to a religion blindly without internalizing its ethics.

Thus, we get the Mafia and the Borgias and all the people who kill in Christ's name.

I don't think you can blame Catholics for the Mafia and the Borgias any more than I can blame atheists for Pol Pot and Stalin. A fortiori, you can't blame Christ for all the people who kill in Christ's name.
