I didn't say that any private sector company or industry would always under all circumstances give a better product and/or price then the government. Such a statement would be false. However a private sector industry with competition will do better then government owned or controlled industries or service providers a large enough percentage of the time so that it the way to bet.

The road in front of your house is probably a government/owned controlled road so the government will pay for its maintainence. Some governments do such work themselves others hire contractor. Its possible that
your example was truly an example of a private company providing a service (to the government).

I'm even glad they keep an eye out for my safety where free market drugs and food and toys and cars are concerned- 'cause the free market would be happy to kill me if it added to their bottom line.

Usu. it is not in the best interest of a company to have its customers die. Also you can have privately provided services and still have safety regulation.

I sure as shootin' don't trust the private sector to educate my child.

If I had a child, I wouldn't trust anyone complexity to educate that child. I would want to know as much as I can about what is being taught, how it is being taught and how successful the school was. If the school was doing a poor job I would want the option to put the child in another school, and I would want the school to be exposed to competition to encourage it to do a good job. (Rather then being in a position where it gets the money anyway and doesn't have to worry about providing what I see as good service.)
