Rudedog:

Thank you for the knowledgeable analysis.

I had pushed the "semi-sarcastic" key on my key board when I typed "10 Billion Dollar" technology sharing agreement but the coding was lost on the screen. :))

Some musings:

One, Compaq's "30,000" (?) member service division personnel, some from Digital, is going to come in handy. They must be worth a great deal, compared to HWP's willingness to pay 19 Billion for Anderson Consulting's personnel.

It may be that the envisioned IBM/Dell deal is counter productive, even as far as you describe it. This guy that Dan3 is quoting, has his biggest complaints in small storage, one area where I thought IBM was supposed to help Dell.

I am not disagreeing with your understanding and analysis, BUT, you know that having ONE vendor usually eliminates what I call "The Daisy-Chain-Blaime-Syndrome", which arises when each provider keeps blaming the problem on the next provider. Advantage, CPQ.

Also, The Dell Model, at least in the past, has envisioned the concept of Buy and Pay and Take Away and Plug it in and Go Away. That is what I thought Dell was doing with IBM. Using them as a clean up hitter.

Remember, now, I am not Dellish, but I do admire Dell. But I thought that contract was going to strongly favor Dell, by allowing them to utilize IBM's customer base to supply them with Dell industry standard (Intel) servers right under IBM's nose.

Too much grassy knolls for breakfast?? :)
