Look at Lehman trying to cover their butts today after what they said late last month. Why didn't they do their homework in the first place? Remember last month (before Regulation FD) they still could talk to NT management in private for guidance that the rest of us weren't privy to.

WHAT LEHMAN SAID TODAY (after the fact)
JDS Uniphase (JDSU) 72 3/16 -22 7/8 : Lehman Brothers downgrades to OUTPERFORM from BUY; brokerage believes there is significant near-term risk to JDSU. Expects company will report solid quarter, but with limited upside given problems faced by LU and NT.

What Lehman said on Sept. 26th
26-Sep-00/ 09:30 -- 10:00 ET

JDS Uniphase (JDSU) 107 19/32 +25/32: Lehman Brothers initiates coverage with an OUTPERFORM rating and price target of $130; says JDSU has emerged as dominant merchant vendor in its market; believes company’s strategy to acquire technology and capacity and to focus on manufacturing efficiencies are exactly what is needed for success in this market.

Re: Analysts

Someone in an earlier post (or maybe on another thread) mentioned WWF.

It suddenly occurred to me that with all these analysts shooting their mouths off, Wall Street and the analysts are taking on the dimensions of the antics on WWF.... Maybe all this volatility is a result of all these incessant upgrades and downgrades to the extent that we are seeing stocks being upgraded and downgraded in the same day.

Come to think of it, there seems to be a contest of whose opinion can cause the largest swing.

Maybe we should all go back to fundamentals - do your own DD?
