you're right Dave and it's a good point. the volatility makes trading possible.

I think there's a hesitancy to announce short positions (there is on my part) but I think that will change in time as we realize it's now a fundamental part of the game.

moves of the major downdrafts on the naz have pretty much announced by the charts...we simply have to become indifferent to the direction (try not to show a preference mentally) and play accordingly.

it's a different mindset, easy to do now and then but difficult to find the discipline on a regular basis.

Dave, I would like to begin educating myself about options. Can you suggest some material?
Thanks, Julie

evening dave...
couldn't agree more with your comments regarding the volatility; i am equally as grateful for this volume - i shudder to think of the mess we would be in should it dry up...i share stan's feelings concerning posting shorts however, as i find it disconcerting to see friends stuck in bad positions(except ernst and charlie of course<g>) but you really do have to hit the pitch they throw at you.....ian

Dave....

Great point..we must have volitility to *trade*....short or long....I have found myself trading options for the last 3 months and found that the cash outlay is much easier to stomach....than buying the common...as for the *dark side* of shorting (via puts)....that has kept me in the game thru this earnings season....it's hard to post much in re: to puting a stock that most you follow are trying to grind out long....but this strategy must, and I mean must, be adapted in this environment.....going short, whether stock or option, is a method of survival for those that trade for a living...

Thanx for *breaking the ice* with this subject....a little bearishness now and then can save, and even, earn you a bunch of $$$$$....<steven>
