"Enterprise optical networking continues to "be very robust" and in that space Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO, news,
msgs) is doing very well, Ching said. "Concerns about Cisco's optical business is unwarranted," he added."

What IS "Enterprise optical networking"? Have we solved the 'last mile' problem already and Cisco's network (now gone "optical" overnight??) is the answer? Boy.. sure sounds like someone is trying to speak out of both sides of his mouth. On one hand push Cisco (let me guess.. they own lots of Cisco) and on the other state that .. while fiber optics is 'dead' (is surely isn't) somehow Cisco's enterprise group (isn't that routers??) is the one really *doing well* in the fiber optic space.

What we *do* know is that Cisco is pretty much a non player still in fiber optics (way, way, behind NT, LU, ALA and others) and in fiber optic components (CSCO, unlike LU and NT, has no internal mfg. capability and buys all of their components from companies such as JDSU). In short.. CSCO is pretty much still a non player in fiber optics - at this point in time.

Am I missing something here? Have I misread this quote? Is there fiber optics now in the enterprise networks?

This is how I read the quote..
a) they have CSCO stock they want to push (by the way look at all the large block trades going down on Cisco the last few days - I saw the same thing on NT a few weeks back).

b) They want to hook Cisco's cart to the fiber optic train (no way - not even close yet) yet detach it from the stigma surrounding the group right now.

My opinion of these analysts is getting really, really low. Someone help me re-read this if I missed something.
