Too bad we can't de-grain the pic, although CW appears to be a good-looking lad nonetheless. I trust he gets his looks from his mom. Impressive achievement with the robot.

Today Hillary and I are celebrating our birthdays, 53rd and 58th. I pray to the political gods that this is the last year that the national media mentions her birthday. It hasn't been a particularly joyful coincidence for me the last 8 years.

Yesterday I realized that my driver's license expires today and that I hadn't received a new one after sending in the mail-in renewal form several weeks ago. So I sent an e-mail to the Texas Department of Public Safety asking about what to do if I get stopped with an expired license. To my pleasant surprise, this afternoon I received a response from Beverly at headquarters telling me that my license had indeed been renewed to 2004 and that she would personally expedite its mailing. She also said that a copy of her e-mail would cover me if stopped. So I think my faith in the government has been bolstered a bit by Beverly.
