" recollect he said all current ThumperTurds were coming from Dresden."

Actually he said that some of the 1GHz and all of the faster ones are coming from Dresden. Now that was several weeks before the CC, so things could have changed.

"Are you telling me that AMD is making 1.2 GHz ThumperTurds in Austin on their ALUMINUM process ? "

Actually no, I am not saying this. I will say that they are setting the specs for at least 1.1GHz in Al. Consider, the previous spec had the 1.1GHz consuming 2 watts more than the 1.0GHz, or about 5 watts or so less than the power increase between previous 0.1GHz steps. Now if that was because the chips produced in Dresden consume less power at a given speed grade, then this makes sense. If so, it probably has more to do with the Dresden process having a Leff of 0.10 micron instead of 0.12 micron at Austin. Increasing the spec for the power consumption of the 1.1GHz by 5 watts is consistent with the Al process. For what it is worth, the power consumption of the 1.2GHz is consistent with the AL process also. Now I don't think they will produce them very long, but are just getting things worked out to moved the Duron to that stepping. If they keep their speed grades consistent, then they will have Durons at 1.0GHz, 1.1GHz and 1.2GHz and Athlon speeds will start at 1.26GHz and go up. Need to milk that gap between the PIII and the P4...

Now the fly in the ointment is that if a Duron can reach 1.2GHz, then overclockers may be able to take it to 1.5GHz or so. And that seems a little high for a low end processor. I need to think about this...
