Re : those amazing capabilities of QCOM's chip (a portion of which I have repeated below).

THIS IS WHY YOU HANG ON TO YOUR QUALCOMM SHARES, EVEN IF "the chart" SAYS YOU REALLY SHOULD SELL.

Jon.

****************************************

<<``Our MSM5500 chipset and system software will be a significant enabler for the wireless industry to truly place the Internet in the palm of your
hand,'' said Don Schrock, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies (QCT). ``Wireless device manufacturers are already working on
products, applications and services that utilize the capabilities provided by 1xEV and our new solutions. The results will be the creation of a
ubiquitous, high-speed mobile Internet lifestyle, allowing any type of information to be accessed anywhere at any time by any device.''

The MSM5500 chipset and system software includes the full feature set of QCT's MSM5100(TM) chipset, providing Bluetooth, gpsOne(TM) and
SnapTrack(TM) position location capabilities, and multimedia features such as Qtunes(TM) MP3 player software and Compact Media Extension
(CMX(TM)) MIDI-based multimedia software. In addition, the MSM5500 is designed to take full advantage of new Moving Pictures Expert
Group-4 (MPEG-4) video and other advanced features offered by the MSP1000(TM) chipset and system software for fast development of tightly
integrated smartphone, automotive and other Internet appliances. The MSM5500 solution also incorporates dual-receive chain diversity that
enhances a device's data throughput.>>

This configuration is MSM5100 pin-compatible to enable rapid development.

This would make more sense if the MSM5100 had been released yet....or even the MSM5105 (which is a less advanced version). If the MSM5500 is going to be sampled beginning in the second quarter, I assume that the MSM5100/5105 will both be out prior to that....

In particular, the MSM5100 should allow some pretty neat phones....1xrtt combined with all of the multimedia features of the MSM3300.
