"..even if that means helping local (China) companies to become their biggest rivals...Shi Jixing goes on to describe their (foreign) dominance as a ``problem that concerns national security.''....``The Chinese are good copiers but they do not have the reseach and development resources...To match up with Nokia is light years away.''

Catch 22.

China wants its own research, development and production capabilities as price for foreign access to markets.

NOK, ERICY and MOT must cut their own throats to secure continued access to China's GSM/GPRS/? markets.

For QCOM - there is no cost to sharing CDMA technology. China's indigenous opportunities with CDMA are clearly superior - as is the technology in meeting its needs.

Win - win.
