The difference is that AMD is promising a 1.5 GHz Athlon in January, while Intel has announced a delay of the 1.13 GHz P-III until Q2, 2001. Never before has Intel validated a speed grade gap between the P-III and the Athlon.

<< Q1 2001 is when AMD will slam Intel big time >>

That sounds so similar to what people have said about every quarter this year, but so far we've missed out on a critical piece every quarter.

I think you have to give up the notion that AMD will slam Intel anytime soon. This is more farfetched than the battle between David and Goliath. AMD is a mid cap; Intel a very large, large cap...a dow and naz component...a sector leader that has been executing well for most of the past 20 years.

I aee AMD's current mission as one that needs reasonably good execution, effective and fairly comprehensive competition that grows the core businesses. Now as far as I can tell, that's what AMD has been doing for the past two years....not without mishaps however. Inspite of that and several years of bad luck and poor performance, AMD has pulled off a turnaround and is starting to make a real neme for itself. This is nothing short of a miracle.

In other posts I have seen you hammer this thread over and over wrt the P4. The P4's eminent arrival I think doesn't come as a big surprise to anyone on this thread. What I see the posters on this thread trying to do is to put their arms around it and evaluate its impact on AMD.

But truely, I think you are nipping at the wrong people's feet. What this thread or any other thread thinks about the P4 is not, for the most part, very germain to the problem other than to its members and lurkers. Where it counts....where it really matters is what the reaction is on 1 AMD Drive. I think we can agree on that...at least I hope we can.

Given that, I have put together a few possible AMD reactions to the P4 threat:

1) The P4 is coming.....sh*t!
2) The P4 is coming.....run for cover!
3) The P4 is coming.....I want my mama!
4) The P4 is coming.....no its not!

Do you think that one of the above is AMD's current response/reaction? If your answer is yes, how do you think the reaction you picked has been/will be or has not been/will not be manisfested into a plan?

If you think none are correct, then what do you think AMD's plan is to counter the impact of the P4 threat?

Don't forget to respond....I would really like to hear what you have to say on this issue.

TIA
