>>Former Chief of Liquid Audio Japan
Is Arrested on a Kidnapping Charge
By ROBERT A. GUTH
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

TOKYO -- The arrest of the former president of Internet music company Liquid Audio Japan Inc. for allegedly kidnapping an employee is the latest stain on the reputation of New Economy companies in Japan, a nation that is uneasy with unproven businesses and entrepreneurs.

In what may prove to be one of the oddest incidents yet in the Internet industry, Masafumi Okanda, 32 years old, and four others were arrested Wednesday on charges of abducting a Liquid Audio Japan employee, transporting him for two days in a car, and then dumping him in a remote forest west of Tokyo, according to a spokesman at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.<<
