John, RE: Merrill Lynch picks top 10 techs

I think I mentioned the list in a post on Monday. I think it was funny that ML said that if there was a slowdown in optical, NT would be one of the last impacted. NT was supposed to be the best performer with 61% appreciation potential, now its expected to do under 18%. The original range for the group was 7% to 61%, with an average of 30%.

It was also strange, that they chose stocks that were not the best pick (among a specific analyst's coverage) in terms of expected appreciation potential except in the case of NT. ADBE (21%) selected over MACR (56%), CSCO (57%) over MOT (178%), SANM (13%) over FLEX (64%), DST (24%) over CVG (89%), etc.

By excluding chip and internet stocks which for the most part have much higher implied upside potentials, I think ML is saying they don't have faith in those analysts' forecasts. Also they boasted about more than 100 tech analysts but only used 7 for their stock picks.
